Rock References

I went to Keswick on Saturday in the Lake District. I was trying, as well to have a nice day out, to take some pictures that I could post. But, of course, the weather was really, really crap. So... Has anyone ever noticed, among many other subtle things in The Simpsons (the best show on earth), there is a 'Rock Reference' (as I call them) in possibly every episode. By Rock Reference I mean the referral or appearance of a Rock, Metal or Blues song, Guitar, Guitar music, Rock or Metal bands, song name or song lyrics, or Rock Musician. There are a lot of obvious examples like when the bands are actually on the cartoon (Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Who, Spinal Tap, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, The Rolling Stones, etc.), but there are less prominent references that you could easily miss, like on the episode where Arthur Fortune opens up a new Mall in Springfield and Otto, as he is listening to a CD in a music store, says something along the lines of "This band doesn't sound anything like Judas Priest!" or when Bart gets a Guitar and Otto plays Freebird on the school bus, or even when Homer had a flashback in one episode about how he started drinking beer, there is a Queen poster in the background. As far as I can tell there is hardly any episodes where there isn't a Rock Reference (I don't think the very first one does), but they are very subtle and even though Rock Music is basically my life, I am not a veteran of the Genre (as I'm only 17), so I might have missed many references that older Rockers may not have. Just thought I'd point that out because it's quite interesting I reckon.

All Your Base Are Belong To Me

It is common knowledge that there are many languages in this big world of ours. A lot of people would agree with me when I say many of them could easily be laughed at purely because of the way they sound... like French for example, or maybe being in angry in German, that's quite funny. Anyway, I reckon that there is no funnier language on this whole planet than Engrish. No, that isn't a mispelling of the world's second most widely spoken language, it's a variation of it often spoken by oriental people or those from the far East who don't have English as their first language. I'm dragging on a bit now... Um, you see the picture above? Yeah, well that's a farely funny example of Engrish. It's from a game called 'Zero Wing' for the Sega Megadrive (or Genesis or whatever it is in America), and it has to be the worst, yet funniest, translation of a Japanese game. The quote "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" sparked off a big thing with internet geeks a few years ago, like a big continuous joke thing that nobody else understands. It even made it all the way to a game I have on my Sidekick II called 'Rock and Rocket' where it appears as a comment from the pilot of the ship you control. The image is courtesy of Wikipedia, and there is an excellent article about "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" (or aybabtu as it's also known) and also an equelly excellent article about Engrish. Take a look for yourself at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aybabtu and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engrish. Wikipedia is a damn good website for learning stuff. There's a good article about Doom on there too.
Oh, and here's my picture for today:

It's another picture of the local town Workington, and if you look closely you may be able to see some geese on there, which are in fact the same geese as on the other Workington picture taken about three weeks ago! Anyhoo, gotta go...
See ya later!

Overheard in Netherhall

Overheard in Netherhall is a blog that a few people have been working on, including myself. Is anyone farmiliar with Overheard in New York (www.overheardinnewyork.com)? Well it's a website where people can post comments that they've overheard or conversations that they shouldn't have been listening to while they were in New York (or New'ork as my American drama teacher calls it), and they're funny of course, or else there would be no point would there? Well overheard in Netherhall is our take on this, but only set in our school. It could embarres a lot of people, including even the four administrators of the blog. That's one reason why we've replaced names with titles such as "Random Kid."
Anyhoo, you can find it at www.overheardinnetherhall.blogspot.com and seeing that this is Netherhall themed post, i'll include a picture I took from a window in one of the school's science classes earlier today, or rather yesterday as it is now 1:50 in the morning of Saturday, despite what the time says at the bottom of the post (I haven't had the ability to change it to the correct time recently, haven't got a clue why).

Poor Ian

Poor kid.
This guy used to be in our school, he was called Ian of course. Poor guy, failed everything he did, GCSEs, A-Levels, Young Enterprise, even when he finished ECDL (the only person in the school to do so actually) he was disappointed to find out that it was the wrong syllabus. Awwwww.... it was eventually rectified though, and he was awarded a certificate (I think), possibly out of pity.
Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. Because he failed at everything he was kicked out of school.
When we had the pleasure of his company though over the few years he was still by our sides, he convinced us all that he had a girlfriend over in America. We believed him actually, up until a few weeks ago.
She's called Alice apparently.
His blog is here http://sparkyneko.blogspot.com/
and 'Alice's' blog is here http://electrikanekoneko.blogspot.com/
Take a look at their profiles. They are the same person, it even says on the bottom of 'Alice's' posts "posted by Sparky." Daft Bugger
Also the website that was linked, www.plum.sakura.ne.jp/~alice/ even though I can't see it on the school's computers, isn't her. The website is Japanese and is used for only Japanese things (it says something like that in the bottom right corner.

Ok, one could say that they were just using the same account to create two different blogs. The thing is though, Ian's supposed to be a computer geek, and he met 'Alice' in computer camp in America. Couldn't two computer nerds have the capacity to create two separate accounts?
Poor guy.
Just thought I’d point that out.

Workington

Here's a picture that I took about three weeks ago of a local town called Workington. If you look closely you can see some white blobs on the water to the left. They were actually the main focus of the picture, but aren't as visible as I'd hoped. It's a group of geese fighting. I turnded round to the other side of the bridge that I was standing on, and I swear there was a duck in the water with a hat on. Unfortunately it swam away before I could take a decent picture of it. Wah.

Pictures

So i've started taking pictures of the town. Here's one of them. I hope you like it. Hey, maybe i can help boost Maryport's economy by generating tourism... yeah right!
There shall be more on the way, dunno when but there will be. Smiley smiley!

Sidekick II

That's meant to be a "2" up there.

Well, I just realised that I haven't blogged for about 8 months..... woah!
Um... on Christmas eve I traveled to my mother's house on a bus. It was a nice bus. Big. Double Decker. And it said "Stagecoach" on the side. Anyhoo, deviating a little for the point there...
I was traveling from my home town of Maryport in the North West of bonny England to our county's capital, Carlisle, also in the North (but not as West) of our beloved country.
On the way there I decided that I really want a digital camera so that I can take pictures of our lovely surroundings. I actually mean it, where I live is a really nice place... awful people, but still a nice place. I really wanna take pictures of the Solway and put them on the internet. I thought to myself, "Wait a minute! I have a blog and I don't use it!" So I came up with the idea of using blogger to showcase the beautiful pictures that I will take.
I still needed a camera.
Turns out though, my Mam gave me a brand new T-Mobile Sidekick II that night, which I only recently discovered can take some damn good pictures. So, when I get a chance to upload some of them, I will!
I'm still on school's crappy computers though, so uploads might be few and far between. I'll do my best!
